RECAST is  organized to mark the 150th anniversary of women’s admission to Copenhagen University. However, it is not only a commemoration of a historical milestone, but also an invitation to imagine new forms and futures for both the university and society at large.

The exhibition takes its point of departure in the University of Copenhagen’s bust collection, which holds more than one hundred busts of white male scholars.

The curators of the exhibtion, Ida Højgård, Mathias Danbolt and Amalie Skovmøller, invited 13 contemporary artists to rethink and work in context of these monuments, challenging the ways in which certain bodies are being deemed as more belonging in the institution.

As part of the exhibition, a selection of the university’s historical bust collection was relocated into the University Library, where the busts came into dialogue with the newly commissioned contemporary works.

HAC has been involved in all stages of this exhibition, from shaping its curatorial framework with Danbolt and Skovmøller, to organizing the exhibition logistics and mounting of the show.

We would like to extend a thank you to Ny Carlsberg Foundation, June 15 Fund, Augustinus Foundation, Danish Arts Foundation and the Knud Højgaard Foundation for helping us realize this show with your generous support.
