HAC has been brought on as art consultants and to raise funds to realize visual artist Ragnhild May's public artwork, Ran, in Ørestad City's Bypark.

Integrated into the landscape, the work will depict the head of Rán, a deity from Norse mythology who personifies the sea. She is often depicted with a net she uses to pull sailors to their fate. This imagery, and formulations denoting death at sea such as “Rán’s bed” (Ránar raunbeð), and "going to Ran" (at til Ránar skal fara) in the prose edda and certain sagas, gives us a glimpse into the uncontrollable and sinister force the sea has represented through the ages. By inserting Rán as part of the landscape, this project adds a historical presence to the area, as well as a break from the ever present, male gaze serving depiction of women.

Ragnhild May is a Danish visual artist who's practice spans both sculptural, sound and performance-based strategies. Her practice is conceptually grounded, and she is currently enrolled in the PHD program at PASS, Copenhagen University.

The project is supported by Statens Kunstfond
